Shooting in the Dark: Tales of Coaching and Leadership
Published in Paperback by Warde Publishers, Inc. (July, 1998)
Average review score:

An important tool in understanding leadership...This book will challenge much of what you might have already learned/experienced as an athlete and/or coach, especially with respect to certain sports, such as football. Although Mr. Thompson's book is centered on his experiences while coaching high school girls basketball for two seasons, his lessons pervade beyond the gym. The chapters pertaining to sharing power with players (or students, or employees) and visualization are particularly strong. He weaves in relevant and occasionally humorous analogies and anecdotes (often in the format of diary entry interludes) in cementing key concepts. Do not bother reading this book if you remain steadfast in your admiration for Bobby Knight's coaching style, as this book's message is more in tune with Phil Jackson's (he even wrote the foreword). Enjoy!

Sibley's New Mexico Campaign
Published in Hardcover by University of New Mexico Press (October, 2000)
Average review score:

Sergio Leone based his film on this Civil War CampaignGeneral Sibley was in charge of the Confederate Army that invaded New Mexico in 1862. This book is very informative and is very good reading from the same author of Sibley's biography. General Sibley drank a bit! On the field he actually won the battle, but being pre-occupied he stretched his forces too thin and got his supplies severed. He eventually lost the campaign. If he had been sober he had a good chance of real victory. The battle, which took place between Confederate and Union forces at Glorietta Pass, has the distinction of the Civil War battle fought at the highest altitude. This bit of Civil War history never makes it into the books. In "The Good, the Bad and the Ugly" directed by Sergio Leone and featuring Clint Eastwood this is the Civil War campaign that the film is based around. General Sibley's name is mentioned in the film.

Silk Stalkings
Published in Hardcover by Scarecrow Press (January, 1998)
Average review score:

An indispensable guide to women who write mystery series.I loved the first Silk Stalkings, and am thrilled with the new edition, which contains well-researched, cross-indexed information about my favorite kind of author--women who write series mysteries. The book is cross-referenced and chock full of information, not the least of which are lists of authors with all their psuedonyms for those who write under more than one name. I couldn't do without this book.

Such a sweet story, combining Santa and Jesus beautifullyThe author tells such a sweet story for children who know Santa and have heard of Jesus but who may be confused of how the two mingle at Christmas. The author weaves a sweet tale simplifying that question and showing love of children. The illustrations are excellent. Please list the illustrator's name on the web site.

Simon Says: An English-Spanish Word Book (Random House Pictureback.)
Published in Paperback by Random House (Merchandising) (26 February, 2002)
Average review score:

Excellent Spanish Learning Tool, Excellent Story"Simon Says" is a story featuring Simon, a guest star from an episode of "Dragon Tales." This funny little gnome first met the Dragon Tales gang and played a game of Simon Says with them, helping them learn to follow instructions and in the process repairing Emmy's yo-yo.
In "Simon Says," he's back and by playing Simon Says, the gang hopes to learn what a group of songbirds are singing in Spanish. Along the way, readers will learn a variety of Spanish words. Each page, including the cover is beautifully illustrated and each new page has each new object labeled in both English and Spanish. Children will want to read the story and then read it again and in the process will learn new Spanish words in a fun and engaging manner.

Sister of the Sword (Barbarians, Book 3)
Published in Mass Market Paperback by Wizards of the Coast (May, 2002)
Average review score:

A thrilling Conclusion to a splendid Trilogy!Brother and sister Amero and Nianki are reunited in this epic tale of the Barbarians.... While one tribe is allied with a bronze dragon and one is allied with perhaps the most exquisitely written green dragon in Dragonlance-dom, Sthenn, a battle takes place that will draw into it race of good and evil... will there be balance? Yes. Will characterization and action be well balanced? Heck yes! This book made me thrill and tears were certainly shed at points of the story. Overall Thompson and Cook prove to me that they can write Krynn well... The female warrior Karada is easily a heroine to rival favorites like Laurana... well done!

Sled
Published in Paperback by Consortium Book Sales & Dist (October, 1997)
Average review score:

THOMPSON does it AGAINSled, much like thompsons other work (Lion in the Streets, White Biting Dog, The Crackwalker) is terribly disturbing while managing to be extremely beautiful. Her use of language is like an everyday version of poetry. She can make anything sound beautiful, even death. Which she does in Sled. PLEASE read ms. thompsons plays. they are a gift.
